Cancelling a WTN market order is not a button you own
Everyone assumes there is a cancel button because there always is everywhere else. Here it is usually not yours to press.

why not
Once an order is placed, the vendor may have already acted on it. A buyer with a unilateral cancel button could send a vendor off to do work and then withdraw, repeatedly, for free.
So the ability to cancel usually sits with the vendor, or with the market, and not with you.
what actually happens if you ordered by mistake
You message the vendor immediately and ask them to cancel. Speed matters more than wording here, because the question is whether they have done anything yet.
Be direct. One short message saying you ordered in error and asking them to cancel is better than a paragraph of apology, and it is faster to read.
Then wait. There is nothing else in your control at that point.
the escrow question
If the vendor cancels, the escrow normally returns to your balance. That is the ordinary outcome and it is the reason escrow exists in the middle.
If they do not respond at all, and the order stalls, this becomes a dispute rather than a cancellation, and how a dispute runs is the relevant post.
The money is not lost while it is in escrow. It is stuck, which is unpleasant and is not the same thing.
the vendor cancelling on you
This happens, for stock reasons, for shipping reasons, or for no stated reason. The escrow returns and the order closes.
It is not a signal about you and it is usually not a signal about them. Treating it as a personal event leads to messages that do not help anyone.
preventing the situation
Almost every accidental order comes from moving quickly through the confirm screen. The fix is the pause described in placing one, which costs about fifteen seconds.
Nothing about this market rewards speed. There is no stock counter running down and no timer on the checkout.
the thing not to do
Do not place a second corrected order while the first is still open, hoping the wrong one gets cancelled. Now you have two orders, two lots of escrow and a more confusing conversation.
Sort out the first one, then place the second. Slower, and it is the only version that does not end in a mess.
The same applies to messages about it. One clear message and then patience beats a running commentary, and the post on what to write covers why that reads better at the other end.
Nothing about a mistaken order is urgent in the way it feels. The escrow is holding the money and it will still be holding it in an hour.
That is the general shape of almost everything in this channel. The system is slow, the money is held, and the only genuinely irreversible act is one you perform yourself.
replies
a reader askedI ordered the wrong quantity. Can I fix it?
the answerOnly by asking the vendor, and only if they have not acted yet. Message them at once and keep it to one short sentence.
a reader askedThe vendor cancelled and my balance has not returned. What now?
the answerGive it time, since nothing here is instant. If it stays missing, that is a question for the market rather than the vendor.
a reader askedCan the market cancel an order for me?
the answerThat is generally what a dispute leads to rather than something available on request. The post on disputes covers what that process looks like.
what this post is not Not a description of any specific cancellation policy. Policies vary and this feed does not open the market, so it describes who holds the ability rather than what the rules say.
