When one WTN market mirror will not open

You paste an address, you wait, and nothing comes back. Here is what that actually tells you, which is less than it feels like.

the three wethenorth market addresses

printed the way they were handed over. no labels, no numbering, nothing here says which one to try first. this feed never opens them, so it has no status light, no percentage and no date of checking to give you.

first, make sure it is silence and not slowness

Those two look identical for the first thirty seconds. Most people call it dead somewhere around second fifteen, which is early.

Give it considerably longer than feels sensible before you decide. The post on slow is the normal state covers why the baseline is so wide.

then try the other two

This is the reason there are three addresses printed in every post on this feed rather than one. If the other two answer, the problem is narrow and local to one address.

If none of them answer, the problem is wider, and it might be on your side. Your connection to the network, your browser, or something in between.

Neither result is dramatic. Both are just information about where to stop looking.

the list of things it could be

Your Tor connection is not established. The circuit chosen for this attempt is bad. The service is under load. The service is having a genuine outage. The address has been retired. You pasted it wrong.

Six causes, all producing exactly the same nothing on your screen. That is the uncomfortable part, and it does not get better with more staring.

Notice that the last cause is the most common and the easiest to rule out. Check what you pasted before you theorise about the other five.

what silence never tells you

That the market is gone. That it has been seized. That an address you have is fake. Silence carries none of that.

People fill in the gap anyway, because a blank screen is uncomfortable and a story is not. That is the moment where somebody with a helpful replacement address does very well.

The post on where people get addresses is about exactly that vulnerable moment.

the reasonable response

Try the others. Wait. Come back later. Do not go shopping for a new wtn market url in a hurry, because a hurry is the worst possible state to evaluate one in.

And do not read a successful load on another address as proof of anything either. It means something answered. That is all it has ever meant.

If you want a rule to carry away from this post, it is that a blank screen is a weak signal and your reaction to it is a strong one. The screen cannot hurt you. The decision you make at minute three might.

Nothing here is urgent. An address that is quiet now is quiet in an hour too, and an hour is cheap.

replies

a reader askedTwo of the three open and one does not. Which is the real one?

the answerThat question does not have an answer available from the outside. Reachability is not authenticity, and a silent address is not a fake one any more than a responding address is a genuine one.

a reader askedHow long should I wait before giving up on an address?

the answerLonger than you want to. This feed will not print a number, because a number would be invented, and people treat printed numbers as measured ones.

a reader askedShould I report a dead mirror somewhere?

the answerThere is nowhere on this feed to report it to. This site has no form, no account and no inbox, and it does not track the state of the addresses it publishes.

what this post is not Not a diagnostic tool. It cannot tell you which of the six causes applies to you, and anything that claims it can from a web page is guessing.
